IT Specialist

Major Duties include but are not limited to:
Diagnoses and resolves problems in response to IT reported incidents. Manages the movement and installation of IT equipment to assure coordination of IT support and customer service. Provides support for technology endpoints (personal computers, laptops, tablets, smart phones, desk phones, video teleconferencing equipment, etc.) by implementing, maintaining and updating VA standard baseline configurations for these devices. Provides group and one on one systems/software applications training to customers as required; and provides on the job training to lower graded IT Specialists. Provides a variety of IT support services essential to the effective operation and performance of VA IT systems implemented at the end user location. Supports and implements the approved enterprise storage architecture; provides support, implements, and manages storage systems by using and installing VA approved storage systems application, tools, and processes. Supports, manages, and implements the VA data and system backup process, conducts and ensures backup maintenance and troubleshooting as needed, and manages systems and subsystems using VA established methods and approved processes. Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note:

Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-11 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
provides Point of Care customer service to resolve customer related technical software and hardware problems; diagnosing and/or resolving problems; overseeing IT support ticketing system activities; coordinating device files for software applications; development, implementation and management of IT processing systems; recommends new or revised operating procedures and controls; monitors system and device utilization and develops configurations for new and existing equipment; performs system maintenance and repair activities to include software and hardware enhancements; performs account management to clear duplicates and outdated entries; investigates and recommends purchase of tools and technologies; plans and deliveries technology support services to include troubleshooting, installation, removal, moves, system knowledge assistance and training, provide site support to include racking/stacking/swapping and connecting equipment, and monitoring status; and develops and maintains problem tracking and resolution databases. The work is sedentary, but may involve intermediate periods of walking, bending, stooping, lifting, carrying, regularly moving (up to 50 pounds) computer components and supplies, reaching, pulling, and working at a keyboard and monitor. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
