Medical Administration Specialist- Administrative Officer of the Day

Major duties include but are not limited to:
Delegated full authority of the Director for administrative activities occurring on off tours. Interprets and applies VA rules and regulations relating to determining legal eligibility to benefits relating to hospital admission; nursing home; domiciliary; fee basis; outpatient care; dental treatment; prosthetic appliances; patient transfer; and beneficiary travel. Authorized, as Certifying Officer, to certify documents pertaining to the administration of laws concerning VA. Ensures that appropriate legal, regulatory, and policy requirements are met. Interprets and applies benefits associated with local and national sharing agreements, Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs , and contractual agreements with other federal, state, local and private entities (i.e. TriCare; CHAMPVA In-house Treatment Initiative, Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs),sharing agreement, and other such arrangements). Resolves administrative Issues surrounding beneficiary death, seriously ill cases, elopements, suicides, assaults, deaths on arrival, homicides, medical emergency, and cost recovery matters. Provides administrative authority, guidance, and advice to Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) and at other clinical and administrative staff concerning administrative matters necessary for the operation of the medical center during other than normal tours. Provides orientation and situational technical advice to physicians regarding VA policies and procedures. Assists medical center staff with medically related legal problems, Including Involuntary commitments, orders of protective custody, and management of unruly or severely disturbed patients. Completes Veteran applications for eligibility and subsequent enrollment process; obtaining income and insurance information from appropriate applicants; completes hardship applications; counsels and assists non-eligible applicants in obtaining appropriate medical care In Non-VA settings, Determines extent of release of information for patient and other records. Promotion Potential:
The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. Work Schedule:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Applicants must have one or more years of specialized experience related to this position. This experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level in the Federal Service. Examples of specialized experience include:
Understanding and interpreting written material, familiarity with Medical Terminology, collecting data and analyzing it for reports, expresses information to individuals or groups effectively, and is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. OR, Education:
Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. One year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement is acceptable. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one (1) year of full-time study. If that number cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours will be considered an academic year of graduate study. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. Transcripts must be submitted with application. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
