Registered Nurse - Cardiac Cath Lab/Electrophysiology Lab

Duties include, but are not limited to:
Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care for the patient in the Cardiology Department - Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Electrophysiology Lab, Pre/Post Procedure Unit and Echocardiography areas. Considers all characteristics of the individual, including age and life stage, state of health, race and culture, values and previous experiences. Performs patient assessments and monitoring peri-procedurally, administers medications, moderate sedation and IV contrast and procedures per established policies, protocols and guidelines. The nursing roles within the Cardiac Cath Lab and EP Lab may include Circulator, Moderate Sedation Nurse, Recorder, EP Pacing Pilot, and/or Scrub Assist. Supports physicians and other professionals in using diagnostic and interventional instruments, equipment, and accessories for cardiac and interventional imaging. The Cardiac Cath Lab & EP Lab Nurse functions in a highly technical work area and is expected to operate complex equipment used during procedures such as Intravascular Ultrasound equipment, Atherectomy & Thrombectomy equipment, intra-aortic balloon pump, temporary transvenous &/or external pacemaker, defibrillator, intracardiac echo imaging, contrast power injector, cautery, archival system equipment and other complex modalities specific to the procedures performed in the Cardiac Cath Lab and Electrophysiology Lab. Performs complex hemodynamic monitoring during invasive procedures utilizing a specialized recording system and is able to efficiently & accurately modify hemodynamic pressure recordings, scales and speeds in obtaining the data needed during complex cardiac procedures. Performs venous and arterial sheath removal independently utilizing mechanical and manual hemostasis maneuvers/skills. Performs a continual nursing assessment during this process and utilizes advanced critical thinking skills and advanced cardiac life support skills in managing complex situations as needed. Maintains the sterile field in the performance of nursing functions. Performs a post procedure call following discharge to ensure patient has education on post procedure care as well as identify any symptoms that may need to be addressed. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Assists with patient care needs throughout the Cardiology department including pre-procedure patient preparation and post procedure care as well as with the application of cardiac monitors used intra-procedurally or for home monitoring needs. Provides nursing care and support for patients undergoing echocardiographic procedures such as transthoracic echo, dobutamine or chemically induced stress echo, exercise stress echo & exercise treadmill testing, and transesophageal echo procedures. Administers Definite Contrast and Agitated Saline per standard operating procedure as ordered by the Cardiologist. Applies Holter Monitors and Zio Patches for patient home monitoring. Performs an initial triage of procedure type and provides education and procedure specific instructions to patient for special echo procedures in the Echocardiography department. Work Schedule:

The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. New graduates will be considered for the position if education and licensure are obtained prior to the hire date. Preferred Experience, Skills, and Education:
1-3 years Cardiac Cath Lab / Electrophysiology Lab experience preferred. 1-3 years Echocardiography experience preferred. Coronary Care Unit / ICU experience highly preferred Moderate Sedation Experience preferred. (Must obtain upon orientation and maintain) Nursing certification in Cardiology specialty preferred. Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within the first 60days of employment and maintained for this position Grade Determinations:
The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
