Visual Information Spec

Major responsibilities include:
Produces finished artwork and designs interpretive materials through planning and preparation of displays, posters, slide shows, brochures, booklets, flyers, video cover designs and general information panels. Selects digital photographs and illustrations for use, or suggests alternative imagery based on the information to be conveyed or the visual effect to be achieved. Determines most appropriate formats, fonts, techniques and technologies, illustrations and imagery for print or electronic media. Is responsible for organizing, prioritization and layout of exhibits, as well as selection of accompanying imagery. Applies a high degree of precision, acute visual perception and accomplished artistic ability to wide variety of tasks and other related duties as assigned. Utilizes Windows software platforms, Adobe Creative Suite software to perform drawing, page layout, photo retouching, animation, and color separation processes. Scans or introduces existing images into the computer for display on the screen and subsequent enhancement or alteration, photo retouching, and electronic transfer of full color images to other locations for high resolution photographic enlargement to poster-size prints. Coordinates layout, design and execution of printed material such as reproduction on-station within the copy center as well as off-station offset printing or color separation through the Government Printing Office. Serves as a Government Purchase Card holder for the off station printing needs. Work Schedule:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-9 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-7. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. To qualify for this position, you must meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the Visual Information Specialist Series, 1084; Undergraduate AND Graduate Education:
Major study -- commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment. Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis. Experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means. Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-7 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include experience with at least three of the following tasks:
application of computer graphics and desk top publishing systems such as Adobe Creative Suite; understanding of procedures of printing and reproduction processes; plan visual aspects of presentations; prepares layouts of pages, two-dimensional exhibits and presentation materials; use of photographic equipment, scanners and printers; communication and interpersonal skills to work with a wide variety of people. OR, Education:
Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or two full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in one of the following fields:
commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. OR, Combination:
Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and education beyond some specialized experience as described above but less than one year, and I have more than two years but less than three years of graduate education as described in education. I have computed the percentage of these requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12, then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond two years by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.). You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

Physical Requirements:
The work requires the ability to distinguish shades of color. Display production requires lifting and bending or kneeling for long periods of time. The use of the computer terminals involves sitting and looking at monitor for long periods. . On occasion, lifting and transportation of moderately heavy equipment (40 lbs.) is required. Employee drives a vehicle to transport material to off-station programs. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
