This position supports Union Pacific?s subsidiary, Streamline ( ) which is a technology driven company that extends UPRR's intermodal department from rail to door to door service making it easier for customers to use the intermodal product. This enables UPRR to more easily convert freight from highway to rail while capturing additional revenue. Streamline systems support all aspects of the business including external customer functions such as tracking and tracing and automated quotes. Systems support internal functions such as operations, pricing and bids, invoicing, and business reporting. Streamline systems interface with contracted Trucking companies, REZ-1, and railroads especially with UPRR. Technology solutions for Streamline directly impact employee productivity, ease of doing business, and can have a direct affect on revenue. Streamline's developers and engineers build the next-generation technologies that change how transportation companies interact with each other. As a developer, you work with a fast-paced team and can switch projects as our business needs change. We need our developers to be versatile and think outside the box as we continue to develop world leading software. Our goals extend beyond railroad technology as we move into new markets. We look for candidates that have an entrepreneurial spirit. The ideal candidate for this position must have hands on development experience, a strong understanding of architecture and programming principles, and practical experience at troubleshooting and solving complex code problems. Developers work with a variety of cutting edge open source technologies including, Wicket, JQuery UI, Spring MVC, and Angular JS, Leaflet JS with opportunities to introduce new java based and open source technologies to management. UPIT/Streamline also provides opportunities for mobile development and working with a wide variety of customers and strategic partners both in and outside the railroad industry. In addition, developers integrate with cutting edge optimization and routing algorithms and technology that allow us to gain a competitive edge in the markets we serve.
Accountabilities
Analysis and development of back end modules as part of the ID2DE project
Design and support of existing web-based applications developed with various web technologies. The primary application support is the Shipment Management suite of applications and ID2DE that are used by UPRR and Streamline customers and strategic partners.
Designing, developing, implementing and maintaining new and current systems utilizing new and existing information technologies to support customer facing applications.
Design systems meeting department standards that resolve customer department business needs. This may require an understanding of, and ability to work with, multiple types of hardware and software. The system design must be reviewed with customer department personnel and management to ensure it meets their requirements.
Use new information technologies to assemble systems meeting department standards that resolve customer department business needs. The system must be reviewed with customer department personnel to ensure it functions correctly.
Participate in the maintenance and support of systems utilizing new information technologies to ensure performance, availability, protection and data security. The existing system may utilize technology the incumbent is not experienced in, requiring quick understanding of unfamiliar methods.
Qualifications
A Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management Information or related field. Strong applicable experience (a minimum of 6 years applications development experience) may be taken into account in lieu of a degree.
3 years experience in the use of Java and Web development
1 year experience with Angular JS desired

years of SQL experience
Solid experience in relational databases; Oracle

years of Solid knowledge of Object Oriented development techniques
Experience with: Spring framework, Java, J2EE, JMS, jQuery, Angular JS, Leaflet JS
