Job Overview:
This Solar Farm Inspector plays an integral role in the successful development of large-scale solar farm construction project(s) in Nebraska.
Specifically, the duties entail the performance of site inspections to ensure that construction sites are in compliance with their National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Construction General Permits (CGPs).
The position will report directly to the APTIM Program Director.
The position requires personnel to plan for each site inspection, travel to each construction site with their own personal vehicle (reimbursable at the government mileage rate at the time of the travel), communicate with the client upon arrival, conduct the site inspection, and prepare an inspection report for review by the APTIM Program Director.
Candidate must be willing to commit to their presence at the project site for the entirety of the construction schedule, which is typically 18 months.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Understanding and working knowledge of the company environmental and health safety standards, procedures and codes.
Take an ownership role in the performance of NPDES CGP compliance inspections at one or more construction sites.
Become familiar with each construction site by reviewing all planning documents, including the NPDES CGP, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan, Hazardous Waste Management Plan (HWMP), and any other applicable plan that have been prepared for the construction site.
Travel to each construction site in your own personal vehicle, which will be reimbursable at the government mileage rate at the time of the travel.
Inspect the construction site and compare observed conditions to the requirements of the NPDES CGP.
Document the findings of the inspection on provided formwork.
Independently coordinate the logistics of each site inspection.
Coordinate with project stakeholders such as APTIM Program Manager, QA/QC Managers, and construction site superintendents using email or verbal communication.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to support extensive team and customer contact.
Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment.
Performs other duties as required.
Basic
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in an engineering, geology, science, or construction related field (additional years of field experience can be substituted for degree, if substantially more than minimum required).
Have completed or willing to complete the following training:
USEPA's construction inspection training course or Hold a current valid construction inspection certification or license from a program that, at a minimum, covers principles and practices of erosion control and pollution prevention practices at construction sites; proper installation and maintenance of erosion and sediment controls and pollution prevention practices used at construction sites; and performance of inspections, including the proper completion of required reports and documentation, consistent with Part 4 of the 2022 CGP Ability to read and interpret applicable site plan documents such as SWPPPs, SPCC Plans, HWMPs, etc.
1-5 years relevant experience performing NPDES-related inspections preferred (not mandatory).
10 hr OSHA Construction Certification preferred (not mandatory).
Basic computer skills to include for Microsoft Suite, Adobe, and SharePoint.
Organizes own work to meet deadlines identified in the CGP.
Communicates information, asks questions and checks for understanding.
Interacts well in a dynamic construction setting.
Current valid Driver's license.
Willing to travel to one or more sites to conduct construction project inspections.
Weekly hotel stays may be necessary.
