-Permanent Job DescriptionInspect air-conditioning units to ensure efficient operation.
Perform regularly scheduled maintenance on heating and cooling units.
Diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions.
Install, replace, or repair damaged equipment; calibrate thermostatic controls.
Install new heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems; repair and replace damaged or worn heating, ventilation and air-conditioning parts and equipment; repair or replace low- and high-pressure liquid lines.
Inspect and observe pressure of liquids and vapor with instrumentation to ensure efficient operation of unit and make necessary adjustment; inspect and service refrigeration equipment including refrigerators, ice machines, gas packs, and heat pumps.
Interpret building codes and regulations as they relate to HVAC.
Properly install refrigerant compressorsDiagnose problems and make recommendations.
Make estimates of materials required.
Repair and replace damaged parts and equipment.
Read blueprints, floor plans and wiring diagrams.
Read and interpret City, State, and EPA regulations.
Work independently in the absence of supervision.
Work closely with colleagues as part of an integrated team.
Follow standard processes to accomplish tasks.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Work at various changing work areas including elevated heights, on ladders/platforms.
Safely operate company vehicles, machinery, and equipmentRecognize safety hazards commonly found in HVAC operations and identify and implement appropriate controls to ensure safe work.
Identify situations that require escalation or elevation to Supervisor or Manager for guidance or need to request additional support.
Provide knowledge and train apprentices and newly assigned technicians.
Competent in the proper use of hand and electrical tools.
Possess basic knowledge of computers and cell phone apps.
Able to rig and properly set up gantry for safely lifting equipment, overhauling pumps, chillers etc.
Understand the proper and safe use of chain blocks, rigging straps and trolleys.
Must have Knowledge of -HVAC controls and safety devices; appropriate Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) / chemical usages; tools of the trade; materials and refrigerant recovery equipment and procedures used in installing, repairing, and maintaining HVAC systems.
Computerized electrical circuits and systems as they relate to air-conditioning, heating, ventilating, and refrigerated cooling.
