5 Omaha, NE Omaha, NE Full-time Full-time $18 - $21 an hour $18 - $21 an hour 5 days ago 5 days ago 5 days ago POSITION SUMMARY The Health Information Data Specialist is responsible for accurately extracting and entering data information from medical records charts, emergency room reports and transfer records.
Also, scanning medications information including, but not limited to medication list, injections, immunizations, health information and historical medical documents into patients charts to reflect current chart status.
The specialist is responsible for processing electronic faxes (e-fax) forwarding (faxing or mailing) patient information as requested.
Conducts periodic checks of patient charts to ensure all forms and overall records format is correct.
Retrieve and route all patient records as requested; Assist the medical records manager as requested.
POSITION-SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES DUTIES &
Responsibilities:
The health information specialist is responsible for maintaining confidentially of all patient information and medical records.

Provide assistance in assessing, planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating electronic health record systems processes as requested for reporting purposes.
Possess a working knowledge of facility medical protocols, policies and procedures Ability to understand and become knowledgeable of Release of Information standards, policies and procedures and HIPAA regulations and compliance of these and other standards.
Performs customer service functions by answering external calls and internal employee requests and questions Creating and retrieving reports from electronic health records systems.
Collect data, determining accuracy and appropriateness of data and implementing into system Forwards patient information as requested to hospitals, providers, lawyers, subpoena, etc.
Manage CDHC patient portal Process e-faxes throughout the day until end of shift.
Sorts loose sheets reports and scans them in electronic health record system Electronically create new files if requested Perform special projects as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS Education:
A minimum of an associate's degree in healthcare related discipline is preferred but not required.
Experience may substitute for education.
Minimum of three years' experience working in a healthcare setting with electronic medical record processes and release of information strongly preferred.

Minimum of two years of Health Information or Medical Records work experience preferred.
Expertise:
Must possess a positive and upbeat personality with a desire to deliver outstanding customer service.

Individual should have strong organizational, strong multi- tasking skills, and problem solving skills with attention to detail.
Must have the ability to communicate effectively, follow instructions and function as part of a team.
Ability to stay focused when doing repetitive tasks.
Ability to effectively use Microsoft software and familiarity with EHR is required.
