A significant amount of travel is required.
The Distribution Market Development Manager will possess the following:
BS or BA in engineering, sales, marketing or business
5-10 years of experience developing sales, marketing and business strategies for a $10-15 million plus industrial market
Multilingual skills such as French, Spanish or Portuguese are a plus!
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally a must.
Have an understanding of all sales channels needed to grow markets
Have firsthand experience managing, selling to and working with the following:
- Big Book Distributors: McMaster-Carr, MSC, Grainger, Fastenal, Northern Tool, etc
- Electrical Distributors: WESCO, Graybar, Sonepar, etc
- Industrial Distributors: Applied Industrial, Motion Industries, Hagemeyer, etc.
- MRO: Strategic Distribution, Industrial Distribution Group, CED, Motion Industries, etc.
Be a strategic thinker and have a track record of growing products within markets
Understand product life cycles
Have project management skills
Be proficient in Microsoft Office
Possess excellent communication and presentation skills
Solid record in providing profit to the bottom line
Know how to get it done through/with the customer, engineering, quality and the factory
Understanding of electrification products a plus
The objective of the Market Development Manager (MDM) for Distribution Markets is to strategically grow the business in the assigned market for the Sales and Marketing Organization (SMO) in the Americas. The MDM will achieve his/her objectives by formulating and implementing marketing strategies, as defined by the SMO, and adapting it to fit the specific needs of the domestic marketplace. The MDM, as an expert in the respective market, must ensure the effective management and control of strategic sales and marketing activities, key customer management and project management. As a key element of SMO Americas, the MDM will interact and provide direction and support to SMO USA and SMO Canada.
The MDM must demonstrate the ability to strategically monitor and evaluate the assigned markets, develop strong relationships with key accounts either directly or through the Outside Sales Force, and expand the market share through effective sales and marketing management. The MDM will demonstrate the ability to perform effective market analysis and planning. The MDM will display strong presentation and high level negotiation skills, key relationship management skills and strong technical background to understand the complexities of a technical business environment.
